Let's Laugh: Why Fun Is a Mental Health Strategy

Laughter is often treated as a nice-to-have rather than something that actually supports our mental health. Yet research consistently shows that laughter reduces stress hormones, boosts endorphins and strengthens social connection.

In everyday coaching conversations, I notice how quickly people forget to make room for lightness once stress takes over. Deadlines, responsibilities and expectations push playfulness to the very bottom of the list, even though it is one of the most effective ways to regulate stress.

Simple ways to bring more laughter into your week:

Watch or read something that genuinely makes you laugh, without multitasking alongside it.

Spend time with people who bring out your playful side rather than only your productive side.

Allow yourself to be silly occasionally, even as an adult with a full calendar.

Notice small moments of humour in daily life instead of rushing past them.

Fun is not the opposite of taking life seriously. It is part of what makes resilience possible. If you would like support building more lightness and balance into your everyday life, I would be glad to welcome you for a first session. You can book directly at www.greenliving-coaching.ch.
